THE MAGIC OF ABEOKUTA!

ABEOKUTA

If you travel all the way to Abeokuta to see only the Olumo rock , you deserve a knock!

Abeokuta has a lot to offer to tourist beyond the famous landmark and towering big rock the city got her name from. You can enjoy a potpourri of activities on a single visit. I always encourage people to spend at least one night if their budget can do it, you are already there, what’s the rush in heading back to join the Lagos traffic!

Go and watch the adire experts do their thing with beautiful intricate designs and the amazing potters turning red clay to some beautiful pots and other pieces. The Amala lafun (white variant of Amala) is a must, or your visit is not complete. For earth shattering bar experience, if you like cat fish pepper soup with lots of pepper, the stadium will come to your rescue.

The Fela family house is there, Oldest church in Nigeria, Obasanjo library and the Alake palace. Do a bit of research before hitting the road, it will safe you lots of headache. My advice is go to the Olumo rock first, and ask your tour guide what else you can do in Abeokuta, he may just be free and with some tips you would have a more amazing time with an expert.

The Olumo rock is adrenalin pumping if you decide to climb, I recommend this for experts only. For the faint hearted, take the steps or lift, it that works. Listen to your guide to understand the story surrounding the amazing rock. At the peak, you can look at the whole of Abeokuta under your feet spreading out. Safety measures are very important here, do not move pass the markings on the rock!

So this summer, Abeokuta is calling you for a weekend break!
