THE NIKE ART GALLERY

Still on what to do this summer, for local tourism…

You do not necessarily need to be a lover of arts to readily fall in love with the Nike art galleria, that place is just pure undiluted fun. It is one of the quintessential places to visit in Lagos, especially if you are on the Lekki axis. It is a combination of learning and leisure, and immersion in arts and culture. It is amazing place to go, not out of town and every seconds spent there is good investment of your time. It is picture perfect. And it free for individuals! And Nigerians like freebies.



The pieces of arts works, ranging from paintings, metal works, wood carvings, and usage of none biodegrade materials such as tyres and spark plugs, takes the ingenuity of the artists to a whole new level.  Spending part of your weekend walking around, enjoying the magic of the arts all done by local artiste will do something great to your mental health. You can buy some pieces if you want, but some price tags will make you dizzy. Lots of trad fashion accessories to buy, bangles, ear rings , and other interesting pieces that makes you look African in a fabulous way, these ones don’t cost arms and legs.




This place never disappoints right from the gate, till you climb all the floors. Each floor is a bundle of new surprises. The art appreciation course I took back at the university several years ago came in handy. Some of the ariste are sometimes around and please feel free to pick their brain and share thoughts with these amazing individuals. If you are lucky like me, you will find Madam Nike herself and it is always a good time each time I engage her.






I hate epistles! So I dare you to set out on a Friday and stay two enjoyable nights on the Lekki axis and return Sunday: Priest Boat cruise on Admiralty, Nike Art gallery, Lekki Conservation, Lekki craft market, Lakowe lakes, choose from, and enjoy the  myriads  of  beaches and resorts on that strip, and loads of other things to do



This summer you have no reason not to do local tourism!

  SUNGBO EREDO (QUEEN SHEBA TOMB) Oke Eri, the destination of the Queen Sheba Tomb, or Bilikisu Sungbo as popularly called by the locals is located in a village close to Ijebu Ode, but it is a rugged, out of the road, hidden path! UMAHIA , THE SLEEPING BEAUTY: War museum & Ojukwu Bunker

  UMAHIA If you are coming from crowded, always in a hurry and crazy cities like Lagos and Aba, the calm city of Umahia may be a bit of a shock to you. It will command you to to slow down your tempo. It is a civil servant city, no one is in   mad rush.   On entering such cities, drop your garb of ‘hot blood’ don’t disgrace yourself by running after buses or quick to curse at other drivers! I visited the war Museum and the Ojukwu Bunker in Umahia. It’s a recollection of the unfortunate civil war, and how Biafra made a technology leap in warfare and in other areas. Whilst Nigeria must never go through another civil war, I am not sure the issues have been resolved yet. In my first visit I met some old people who told things about the war that gave me goose pimples. My wife is from Abia state, so I get to visit often. Recently, the cruise ship industry has been the fastest growing segment in the overall tourism worldwide. Cruise industry contributes substantially to local, regional and national economies. The cruise lines also boost global economy supporting around 940 thousand jobs and paying around $40 billion in wages worldwide. In 2019, the cruise industry generated a total of $55.5 billion in economic activity in the United States, a 5.3% increase from 2018. Moreover, growth in economic activity was accompanied by an increase in industry-supported jobs. For Nigerian tourism and economy , resumption of cruise simply means more skew in the 'inbalance' of trade.
